Microsoft Exam Tip

Published by pcpro under Miscellaneous

Here’s a great tip I came across when preparing for your Microsoft exams….Now go Ace It!
Tip: Focus on the Microsoft angle
The concepts are universal—networking, DHCP, etc.—but spend some time concentrating on anything that Microsoft does with these items that make them sales bullets for the company. For example, DNS has been around since the days when it became apparent that scaling HOSTS files was impossible, but you need to know how Microsoft intertwines Active Directory with DNS. In other words, don’t just know DNS, but know Microsoft’s take on it.

PC Pro Student Gets Big Salary Before Graduation

Published by pcpro under Student Success Stories

David is a student that enrolled about five months ago. He came to us with an extensive background in management and communications. David needed a change because he was laid off a year and a half ago and could not find work anywhere. He had some reservations about our program because he didn’t want to start out at $30,000 a year in I.T., when he was used to making $60,000+. Our Campus Director told David that he had the ability with his background to start at a higher rate but it all depends on what he does to make himself marketable. During his time here David started interning at a local company a few nights a week to get some real experience in the field. Last month they came to him with a part time offer and he decided to take it and would re-evaluate everything once he graduated. David shared today the news that the company came to him last week with a full time offer. They were extremely impressed with his work ethic and abilities. He starts FULL TIME in June at $50,000 a year!!
I am sharing this because we all get people through the door that say they can’t start at $30,000 a year. Well, they don’t have to if they put in the effort! I am not saying that you should expect a $50,000 a year salary. I am not promising any salary range but if you are willing to put in the effort, it can certainly pay off! David comes to test preps on Saturdays, he interned and took a part time position to get experience and look at his first year salary with no prior IT experience. Another true success story! And he still has a month of classes to go!!!

Workshops in Washington DC

Published by pcpro under Miscellaneous

I spent this week in Washington DC in training workshops regarding accreditation and the US Department of Education. One evening after the training I ventured out to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. I walked right up the front gate and took a picture.
I learned so much and got a chance to see our Nation’s capitol! It was great!
