Jason shares his thoughts about the PC Pro Schools program
Before attending PC Pro Schools, Jason Fields earned a Master’s degree from a traditional university. In this article, Jason discusses what made him decide to make and career change and what it’s like work in the IT industry.
In 2001, I earned my Master’s degree in Library Science. From 2001 to early 2011, I worked as a professional librarian. I have experience in library management in both public libraries and academic settings.
I ultimately decided to make a change from library management to the IT field because of the job outlook – the ability to gain experience via PC Pro School’s program gives me the flexibility to qualify for a wide variety of positions.
I have always been fascinated by technology, whether it was keeping up with the latest trends or setting up a personal home network. Because of PC Pro’s links with an IT industry leader like Microsoft, the program was an appealing option for me.
The accelerated program was appealing to me because when I enrolled, I was looking for a quick way to formalize my existing knowledge that would lead to the ability to change careers.
PC Pro Schools was the right fit for me in part because of the location of the campus was extremely convenient for me. In addition, I feel that every staff member I interacted with was genuinely interested in my success as a student.
Career services at PC Pro Schools were very supportive in my attempts to find a new career. Contact with my career advisor early in the process was extremely valuable. It gave me confidence about preparing my resume to reflect my career transition. Follow-up conversations provided encouragement throughout my job seeking efforts.
Thanks to my experiences at PC Pro Schools, I began applying for IT jobs soon after beginning my coursework in March 2011. Soon, I received my first job offer. Currently, I am working for a company that specialized in outsourced IT help desk support.
In my new IT position, I am responsible for supporting clients in their use of software that helps them in their careers. Becoming familiar with client software and taking good case notes has been critical to my success in my current position.
I love working with technology, so my new job is a great fit for me. I am looking forward to exploring other avenues in IT after gaining more experience in the field.
Throughout my experience at PC Pro Schools, I especially enjoyed the supportive environment. Making a career transition to the IT industry was daunting, but it was made so much easier with encouragement from the staff at PC Pro. The addition of technical assistants in the classroom was excellent – the TAs in my lab were knowledgeable while engaging students who may have been struggling – another example of the supportive staff at PC Pro.
I would recommend PC Pro Schools to others seeking a fast was to gain new skills – or to enhance existing skill sets. Gaining these new skills has given me to confidence to pursue a new career path.
I have gained so much confidence in my IT skills since completing the coursework at PC Pro Schools. Learning about working in the IT field has been a wondering experience and I will feel proud to call myself a PC Pro graduate.
