Studying During the Holiday Season
‘Tis the Season… Right! With the Holidays right around the corner, some students might have the luxury of waiting out their food coma in front of the television. Others aren’t so lucky. This is “crunch” time, and I’m not talking about cookies.
A house filled with friends, relatives and what’s-their-names is far from the ideal study atmosphere – here are some suggestions to help drown out the distractions:
1. Find a quiet environment… I know what you’re thinking, but try your best. Whether that means holing yourself up in your bedroom or taking a walk to the local coffee shop, where you study can make all the difference.
2. Avoid social usage on the computer as much as possible! It may be tough, but with so much going on during the holidays, a class-related Google search can quickly turn into an hour on Facebook.
3. Eat smart. Avoid digging through the cookie jar. Sweets and holiday leftovers can knock you out. Instead stick to lighter meals and non-caffeinated drinks.
4. Lastly, try to relax. The holidays can be crazy and stressful (that’s off the record, of course) and it doesn’t matter how hard you study if your head’s somewhere else. Stay focused and concentrate on the issues at hand.
Remember, don’t be too hard on yourself. After all, the Holidays are all about taking a second to get out and enjoy the little things.

Halloween Computer Prank
So I would generally not endorse freaking out your loved ones but this is a fantastic Halloween Computer prank!!!
You Will Need:
1. Microsoft Word
2. Access to the victim’s computer
3. Creativity
…Step 1: Learn about AutoCorrect
Familiarize yourself with Word’s AutoCorrect feature. The program automatically fixes frequently misspelled words. You can easily modify AutoCorrect for dastardly ends.
Step 2: Get to the computer
Find a time when you when you can tamper with the victim’s computer in peace.
Step 3: Open Word
Open Microsoft Word and click on the Tools tab, then AutoCorrect. In the Replace box, type the word you want the computer to change. In the With box, type the word or phrase you want to swap in. Click Add. When you’re finished, click OK.
Replace commonly typed words. The more often the victim types them, the better.
Step 4: Observe
Relish the expression of sheer confusion as the victim tries to decide whether their computer is out to get them, or they’ve gone completely insane.
Forty-four percent of Americans say they believe in ghosts.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

Good Study Habits Make a Big Difference
Most of my students are aware that strong time management skills will help them accomplish the success they desire. Many of them also developed this skill during their time in school, and if you can do the same, you will find it is a valuable asset that you will use throughout your life.
1. Choose a specific time and a place for studying
Decide what to study and where you will study it during the free time on your daily schedule. It is important to consider that you will want to avoid studying late at night in order for your efforts to have their desired effect, unless you are a true night owl. Make sure that you have appropriate work space, good lighting, and a comfortable temperature as you study. Because so much of what you will be doing is on the computer it is really important to have a good set up. On the couch with you lap top on your lab probably isn’t the best place!
2. Prioritize your work.
Start with the topics or tasks that you feel are the most difficult or require a significant amount of concentration. If you do these things first, the other stuff will be easier to accomplish.
3. Be honest with yourself
You know YOU best so whether you will do your best studying in the morning, the afternoon or at night plan for that. You may need a snack or some soft music to create the right study atmosphere, and if you feel “trapped” in your studies, get some fresh air and take a walk. If you need to make watching your online lectures more of a form of entertainment, connect your computer to your TV, pop some popcorn and watch that way. Be true to you and take care of you! This is the key to your success!
